DAMAGE MARINE SURVEY / CLAIMS INVESTIGATION


Purpose:  To assess the extent of damage to a vessel that has been involved in an accident or in some other way damaged and to establish a recommended list of repairs with appropriate repair estimates if needed.  If accident investigation is requested, the cause of the damage can be established. Recommendations of market value before and after the accident are established. Usually commissioned by a specific insurance company as part of a claims investigation.  In such circumstances, the Surveyor acts as the Underwriter's eyes and ears.  The surveyor works in liaison with the insured, the repair facility and all the relevant participants.

Method:  Inspect to determine full extent of damage and root cause. 
     Particular focus is on damaged areas.  If accident investigation is requested, accident reports, written statements of those involved in the accident and any witnesses, diagrams, lab tests and pictures, etc. are developed.
