PRE - PURCHASE MARINE SURVEY
Purpose: To determine the current specific operating condition of a new or used vessel prior to purchase, identifying any structural or safety defects, malfunctioning equipment, current and future maintenance projects, suitability for intended use, and current market value. To enable the buyer to make a more informed buying decision, and to go into the purchase more objectively. To give the buyer information needed to negotiate an appropriate price for the vessel. To provide the buyer with information to repair and upgrade the vessel after purchase.

User(s): Buyer; Insurance Companies; Lending Institutions; Broker/Seller; Repair Contractors.
Survey Report Format (SRF): Includes: Table of Contents; General Information; Scope of Survey; Standards; Valuation; General Description; Findings and Recommendations (stated, explained and discussed) by major functional system and element (see SIP above); Summary of Recommendations; and, Appendices (pictures, diagrams and charts). This report is usually, twenty (20) pages or more and written with the buyer considered as the primary reader and user.
