CONDITION AND VALUATION MARINE SURVEY
Purpose: To establish the current general condition of a vessel for an insurance company to determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. Also, to enable setting of coverage so that you are insured sufficiently to meet any loss, and that your vessel is insured for enough value to replace it if damaged or lost. This is accomplished by providing information regarding the vessel's safety for its intended purpose, specifics on equipment, systems installation and market value. Insurance companies usually want to know if a vessel's structure and operating condition meet generally acceptable criteria for safe operation and welfare of your crew and passengers (i.e. USCG, NFPA & ABYC safety standards). Most insurance companies require a survey on older boats.
Method: Systematic Inspection Process (SIP) - described at home page.
Client: Owner
User(s): Insurance Company, Lending Institution and Owner.
Survey Report Format (SRF): Includes: General Information; Scope of Survey; Standards; Valuation; General Description; Findings by major functional system and element (see SIP above); Summary of Recommendations; and, Pictures. This report is usually, approximately ten (10) pages and written with the insurance company and/or lending institution considered as the primary reader and user. Heavy focus on structural integrity, and compliance with safety standards.
